Our integrated community development approach means that traditional local government challenges are viewed through multiple lenses–including market reality, community capacity, organizational structure, and planning best practices. Nowhere is this more evident than in our neighborhood revitalization efforts
Albany County Land Bank (New York)
The Albany County Land Bank is one of New York’s most active, with a portfolio of over 700 properties, many of which are in the County’s most struggling neighborhoods. They sought to innovate on the land banking model to achieve greater revitalization outcomes.
The SmarterLocalGov team worked with the land bank to understand market dynamics, develop revitalization concepts in key neighborhoods, and market targeted properties to developers for projects aligning with community values and redevelopment goals.
Livingston County, New York
Livingston County is diverse in its geography and market conditions, with a segment of the region well-connected to the Rochester, NY metro area, while southern towns can be viewed as isolated and rural. The County takes very seriously its responsibility for providing safe, affordable housing to all residents; but struggled with attracting accessible housing in more rural locations and providing for affordability in those communities closest to the city.
Our SmarterLocalGov team is currently engaged with Livingston County leadership in an effort to assess existing strategies and market conditions, and to develop a strategy for attracting investment in a diverse set of housing products throughout the County. Our team is working with social service providers, County leadership, and the development community to identify and mitigate market, financial, and political barriers to supportive and market-rate housing.
